Silver Lake Chamber Of Commerce Hosts
Free
Sustainability Summit
Los
Angeles (September 10, 2010) – The Silver Lake Chamber of Commerce Sustainability
Committee is hosting a Sustainability Summit on Sunday, September 19th in the popular Sunset Junction
area. Workshops will be held at
three different locations within walking distance of each other. Three Chamber member businesses are
hosting the classes, which will take place from 10am-1pm. The workshops, while
geared toward small business owners, will also be relevant to city residents
and are open to all.
Seven
“green” experts will be sharing their suggestions on how to introduce
sustainable practices into your business or home: Jonathan Parfrey (GreenLA), Leslie VanKeuren
(SustainLA), Randi Ragan (GreenBliss EcoSpa), Kreigh Hampel (Burbank Recycle Center),
Natalie Freidberg (EcoNatalie, Inc.) and Kristin Bischoff (Angel
Printing). Zero Waste specialist
Jessica Aldridge of the Burbank Green Alliance will be available during the
event to answer questions about what is recyclable and what is not; attendees
are invited to bring items which they are unsure about (such as waxed paper
containers) and ask the expert!
Six
workshops will be available for attendees to choose from on various topics
relating to sustainability, covering topics such as Waste Reduction, Marketing,
Sourcing Products and Energy Efficiency. Parfrey, who is Director of the
GreenLA Institute, will be providing a Los Angeles Policy update on public
transportation, water conservation and more. The Living Room, Natural Mind Hair and Art Gallery and
Where: Meet, Mix, Mogul, all
located near the site of the Silver Lake Farmer’s Market, will open their doors
to attendees at 9:45am.
By
adopting “green” or sustainable business practices, businesses can give
themselves an edge in today’s challenging economy. The Silver Lake Chamber of
Commerce takes a “big-picture” view of the business environment, and supports
its members’ participation in sustainable business practices. Doing “good” and
doing “well” are not mutually exclusive!
The Silver Lake Chamber of
Commerce Sustainability Committee is part of the Chamber Board, founded in order to address the growing
interest in green and sustainable business practices. The committee’s mission
is to assist local businesses and the community in adopting sustainable
practices through education, outreach, and incentives.
The Silver Lake Chamber of
Commerce is
an organization designed to meet both business and community needs. The Chamber exists to promote the
Silver Lake area. Each member business is independently operated. The Chamber
in no way regulates or takes responsibility for the business practices,
policies or actions of its members.
