AZONIC ALBUM FEATURING BLIND IDIOT GOD FOUNDER ANDY HAWKINS AND TIM WYSKIDA (KHANATE, BLIND IDIOT GOD) TITLED,
PROSPECT OF THE DEEP VOLUME ONE,
DRAWS CRITICAL ACCLAIM
"
Azonic is the improvisational project of Blind Idiot God guitarist Andy Hawkins with his BIG bandmate Tim Wyskida (also of Khanate) on
timpani,
concert bass drum, and
gong. Consisting of two side-long pieces and a bonus track on the CD, this has been tagged as “
orchestral drone,” a description that fits through the combo of Hawkins’ sharp atmospheric spillage and Wyskida’s choice of instruments, which instill weight, breadth, and color over standard thud. There’s still plenty of rumble, and
Prospect’s contents are large as well as lengthy." A-

The Vinyl District
“From the first booming thud of Wyskida’s timpani there is an undercurrent of dread that runs through the three pieces here…The dread comes in waves, shot through with moments of shimmering beauty as Hawkins’ guitar rings and shudders through the dark, notes and chords bending and stretching, loops of delay crashing and decaying around them whilst Wyskida stalks around and through, adding subsonic booms, ghostly taps and minimalist distant gong washes…
Prospect Of The Deep Volume One is both mesmerising and engaging, haunting and haunted…”

Echoes and Dust
“On the Azonic disc, Hawkins' 7-string and doubleneck guitars are matched by drummer Tim Wyskida's unique percussion array, which consists of two tympani, a concert bass drum, and a gong, to which the estimable Bill Laswell added bowed bass and triggered samples as part of his mix translation.
The gargantuan sound of their high-volume improvisations, replete with long tones and pealing feedback,
is both heavy and deep: the full realization of things Hendrix hinted at with "And the Gods Made Love..." and parts of the third side of Electric Ladyland, and the logical next step after Boris' Flood.”
