In lieu of its summer musical, Carolina Youth Theatre will perform a virtual benefit concert that will be livestreamed from the Clayton Center auditorium. A collaboration between current and former students, the concert will feature soloists and virtual choir compilations of uplifting Broadway tunes that affirm the importance of community.
In addition to giving CYT students and alumni an opportunity to showcase their talents and entertain audiences, CYT Sings! is a way for CYT to give back to local businesses that have been core supporters since CYT was founded in 2007. In line with its mission to educate and serve its community, CYT will give half of the net concert proceeds to the Clayton Chamber Foundation’s Small Business Grant Fund, which was created in response to the devastating economic effects of the covid-19 pandemic.
Nikki Dyke, CYT’s executive director explains: “The performing arts bring people together, and now more than ever, we need community. When faced with the decision to cancel our summer musical, we realized this was an opportunity to adapt and try something new. In a time when so many are struggling, Carolina Youth Theatre has a role to play and a responsibility to help our community.”
There is no charge for the concert, and because of covid-19 restrictions, there will be no live audience. Donations can be made by texting CYTSINGS to 44- 321.
