We’re incredibly pleased to be able to announce that Dr Norman Swan, Australia’s leading health journalist, will return to Maleny to discuss his new book,
So You Want to Know What’s Good for Your Kids?.
This is the third in a series of books in which Dr Swan presents all the latest research on living well in simple, comprehensible language. He started with
So You Think You Know What’s Good for You? and, moved from there to
So You Want to Live Longer Younger? which is the book he discussed when he last came to Maleny. Now he has set about dispelling a whole range of myths about early childhood.
Before joining the ABC and becoming the host of the Health Report (and
Coronacast, not to mention
What’s That Rash?) Norman began his career as a pediatrician, so this is a subject close to his heart. In
SYWTKWGFYK he has written a one-stop handbook that clears away all the unnecessary advice parents are subjected to, allowing them to focus on what makes a difference to children. He replaces myths, half-truths and misconceptions with practical knowledge on topics that parents care about - including sleep, diet, school refusal, screens, social media, what genetics determine and what you can and can’t change; anxiety, ADHD and much much more.
Dr Swan will be in conversation with Steven Lang.

And, Introducing,
Marko
Newman
Marko's first novel, Dronikus - short-listed for this year's Aurealis Award for the best Science Fiction - is set in a futuristic African state where autocracy has taken hold.
It is the story of a man who stands up to the cynical destruction of both the human and natural worlds.
Marko has worked extensively in film as producer, director and film-maker and he brings this cinematic eye to his thrilling tale...
'Vividly imagined',
John Birmingham

A special announcement:
We had a phenomenal response to the event with Hugh Mackay. Speaking fluently and clearly for over an hour about the forces that act against social cohesion in our society, he seemed to touch a nerve with many in the audience. Several people said they would happily have sat there for another hour.
We couldn't help but notice that the RangeBow Festival has, as one of their guests, Joey Fry, talking, in Maleny, about his documentary The Great Separation, which includes commentary from Hugh Mackay.
The event will be in Maleny Community Centre on Saturday 3rd August, 2.30pm, as part of the RangeBow Festival
