Alexander McCall Smith is in Australia for Adelaide Writer's Week and has kindly agreed to travel north (exclusively) to Maleny for this Outspoken event. He will be talking with Steven Lang about two new books published at the end of 2015 – a collection of short stories,
Chance Developments, Unexpected Love Stories; and the most recent in the
No.1 Ladies Detective series, The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine.
|
Alexander McCall Smith is one of the world’s most popular authors. He is also a highly entertaining speaker and raconteur. He began his career as a professor of Medical Law, working in universities in the United Kingdom and abroad. After the publication of his highly successful
No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series – which has sold over twenty million copies – he devoted his time to writing fiction.
His novels fall into different series – he is remarkably prolific – apart from the
No.1 Detective Agency they include the
Scotland Street novels, first published as a serial novel in
The Scotsman, The
Sunday Philosophy Club series starring Isabel Dalhousie, the
von Igelfeld series, and the new
Corduroy Mansions novels.
|
Mr McCall Smith is also the author of collections of short stories, academic works and over thirty books for children. He has received numerous awards for his writing, including the British Book Awards Author of the Year Award in 2004 and a CBE for service to literature in 2007. He holds honorary doctorates from nine universities in Europe and North America. His books have been translated into over forty languages and become bestsellers throughout the world.
He lives in Edinburgh with his wife.
As usual Outspoken with also present an 'introducing author' on the evening. We'll let you know who this is as soon as it's been confirmed.

This event will be held in the Maleny Primary School Hall as it will grant us more capacity. There will still, however, be a bar, run by Maleny Community Centre, and our usual selection of cheeses from Maleny Cheese. Please come at 6 pm to enjoy the social aspect of the evening. |

About Us
Outspoken is organised by Steven Lang and Chris Francis.
We begin each evening with a fifteen minute interview and/or reading with an ‘Introducing’ author, a writer our audience may not be so familiar with but whom we believe to be worthy of their attention. The main part of the event takes the form of approximately one hour of conversation between the invited author and Steven Lang, including time for questions.
Please visit our website for more details and a list of our programmed events.
We will be running a bar so please come from 6.00 pm to enjoy a drink and sample our complimentary cheese and biscuits (from Maleny Cheese).
Proceedings start at 6.30 pm sharp.
