Wayne Swan will be discussing his book,
The Good Fight, a very personal rendering of an extraordinary period in Australian politics.
The first part of the book discusses the Global Financial Crisis and Australia’s reponse to it, while the latter sections give an account of the divisions within the Labor Party which led, inexorably, to the loss of government. At the same time Mr Swan makes a strong case that during these years much important legislation was negotiated through parliament, in the face of bitter attacks by vested interests such as miners, big polluters and, notably, parts of the media.
It’s an intriguing tale, giving new and unexpected perspectives on what happened and why. This event gives you a unique opportunity to hear, and to ask questions, of a man who has been at the highest level of politics for the last seven years.
Wayne Swan is a local, born and educated in Nambour. This will be his only event on the Sunshine Coast.
