Using Visual Advocacy to Persuade Where Mere Words Fail
WHAT’S GOING ON?
Every day, lawyers
communicate with colleagues, clients, judges, and others
about a wide variety of legal issues. And when we
communicate, we often use PowerPoint slides, which we
affectionately refer to as our “slide deck.”
SO WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
Many, if not most, of the slides decks used by lawyers are
awful. Unappealing. Unhelpful. Distracting. Boring.
HOW WILL THIS PROGRAM HELP?
In this morning session, you will learn the essentials for
making a great visual presentation. You’ll see:
-
how to create and edit
basic slides,
-
how to organize your
slides to communicate your main themes and ideas, and
-
how to employ
principles of design to take your presentation to the
next level.

Using Legal Design to Solve Difficult Problems in Practice
WHAT’S GOING ON?
In recent years, companies and institutions have turned to
designers to improve how they deliver services and programs.
Given this trend, lawyers could use “design thinking” to
address legal challenges in their practice and in their
community.
SO WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
The phrase “Legal Design” sounds a bit unusual. Different.
Odd. Scary.
HOW WILL THIS PROGRAM HELP?
In this afternoon session, you will take a whirlwind tour of
this exciting new field. You’ll learn:
-
the basic principles of
legal design,
-
the five stages common
to any design process, and
-
how you can help your
clients achieve better results in cases, transactions,
and projects by using “design thinking.”
