The term centering references our center of gravity where the body's mass is evenly distributed in all directions. Balance and stability radiate from this area, and because the mindbody is one our center plays an important role in anchoring us in our truth. We can better assess feelings of vulnerability, dysregulation, and activation when we are centered.
In my experience the more difficult a conversation, the more vital it is that I be attuned to my truth. It can be challenging to maintain that type of clarity in any conversation, let alone one that is stress-inducing. Centering can facilitate compassionate and productive communication because at any point in the conversation we can feel into our center of gravity while reorienting to the dimensions that are balanced around it. |
