1. Pack heavy items at the bottom of your suitcase. This makes the case more stable and easier to handle. When using a backpack, pack heavy items closer to your own back as this makes it easier to carry.
2. Limit your liquids. They're heavy! Make sure you decant your toiletries into smaller bottles to save weight. Better still, if you think you'll use a whole bottle (like suncream for the whole family) then buy it at the destination.
3. Wear your heaviest items (boots etc) rather than packing them.
4. Consider your luggage. Choose modern, lightweight luggage rather than heavier leather options. Suitcases with 4 wheels are easier to wheel alongside rather than dragging behind you. Backpacks are great if you're going off road for any length of time or you need hands free to catch kids!
5. Check the forecast and try to only pack what you'll need. If possible, plan a rough itinerary so you can plan your clothing and packing accordingly.
