Happy New Year!
Hello California! As we reflect on 2015 we can't help but think of all the things we have to be thankful for. One of those is all of you, who make our work possible. AIS is entering its 48th year in business, thanks to you! We wish you all many blessing for 2016, and thank you for your support of Native American Arts and Americana Indian Shows. We look forward to serving you in the new year!
We begin our 2016 series of shows in Riverside CA with a fully restocked, exciting inventory. True to form, we kept very busy over the holiday season buying new jewelry and beefing up inventory. A good number of arists came by the shop to see us and there were a couple of buying trips to the Gallup and Zuni area as well. Some highlights include a fantastic coral bracelet by
Calvin Martinez (ca 1990s), new works by
Alton Bedonie (think rings, pendants, earrings and more!),
Nelson Begay's stunning bolos, necklaces and belt buckles, a new
Jack Tom necklace, outstanding handmade
long chains by
Bruce Hodgins, contemporary necklaces from
Mary Tom, and more. While shopping we also found a interesting three-strand fetish necklace. We knew this piece seemed special and after doing some research we discovered just how special; it is made up of carvings from
Andrew Emerson Quam,
Lavina and Jennie Tsikewa and Leekya Deyuse - some of the most legendary Zuni carvers to ever put tool to stone and shell. Be sure to get a look at this rare and beautiful necklace! Some exquisite Zuni work acquired includes a number of beautiful knife wing dancer design pieces from
Harlan Coonsis (his signature work!), to include several necklaces, rings and a hard to get coral belt buckle. We've also restocked with colorful pendants, rings and earrings in spiny oyster shell, lapis, turquoise and more, as well as new pieces from Vernon Haskie, Kee Yazzie, Alex Sanchez, Bruce Morgan, Ruddell and Nancy Laconsello and more...far too many to mention here - so be sure to come on in and check out our great inventory! As always, we have Items to fit any budget, from insanely affordable (great for gifts!) to not-to-miss collector items!
Carvings, Pottery, Rugs and More
In addition to collector quality kachinas by master carvers, you'll find a huge selection of Zuni fetishes, Navajo, Hopi and Acoma pottery, alabaster carvings by Marvin Toya, superb Navajo weavings and exquisite sand paintings. Our selection of Navajo rugs is excellent, and we have many smaller sizes from which to choose, including two very unique, small round Navajo rugs (something we rarely have!). Smaller rugs make a beautiful decorative base for any kachina, pottery or carving collection, and make lovely wall accents too!
See you there!
