Ready2Move

Re-Energizing for 2013 |
Ready2Move is a program designed by Sansum Diabetes Research Institute and administrated through a longstanding collaboration with Santa Barbara High School. Ready2Move is a health advocacy club for high school students to educate others about the importance of healthy eating, physical activity and positive lifestyle choices. In turn, these students improve their own health and reduce their risk of diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. The program provides a safe atmosphere for youth to gain knowledge, life skills, and community service hours.
The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch in Room 31. Weekly meetings incorporate healthy snacks, teambuilding activities, outreach event planning, health assessments, “contact card” sharing (short summaries of one health-related conversation from the past week), and more. Club members are currently planning their 3rd annual Week of Wellness (April 8-12) as well as their inaugural Brain Breaks project (late April) which will both benefit the SBHS campus-at-large. These health advocacy projects have both been funded through a generous grant from the Fund for Santa Barbara’s Youth Making Change program.
The Ready2Move program is facilitated by Rose Linehan who holds a degree in Exercise & Sports Studies from UCSB and also speaks Spanish. Rose is a certified personal trainer, a ZUMBA® instructor, and an avid runner. She enjoys motivating youth towards better health and hopes that more students will take advantage of this program. If your son/daughter is interested in joining, contact Ms. Linehan at 682-7640 ext. 265 or rlinehan@sansum.org for a parental consent form which he/she should bring to Room 31 during regular meeting times. We look forward to welcoming your son/daughter to the Ready2Move program!
