The end of the school year is right around the corner and so are the terms of a few PTSA Executive Board positions, in particular PTSA President and Secretary. We encourage all parents to be a part of this great organization. We need lots of helping hands to coordinate, chair and facilitate our many activities, events and programs which are essential to the success of the PTSA and SBHS.

Honorary Service Award Luncheon
May 7th in "The Little Gym"
The Honorary Service and Staff Appreciation Luncheon, catered by Petrini's, is next week and there are still openings for volunteers. So if you are available, please help us honor the staff and faculty who support our children each day.
There are three volunteer shifts, pick which one works for you!
Set-up: 8:30-11:30
Serving: 11:15-1:00
Clean-up: 1:00-2:00

AfterProm Party at ZODOS - May 26th!
Additional volunteers are needed to help chaperone the AfterProm party at ZODOS on May 26th so that Prom attendees can extend their party!
Donations are needed for the Wheel of Fortune and raffle. Please solicit your kids' favorite businesses for donations big (raffle) and small ($10-15 gift cards for the Wheel).
Tax id letters are available from the PTSA.
Volunteer scheduling is now organized through ParentSquare. Please send an email to SBHSPTSAPS@gmail.com to garner an invite to join for a copy of the letter or to volunteer to chaperone. We expect over 400 students to attend!
Gift cards and raffle prizes are needed by May 17th!

Santa Barbara High School’s
“22nd Annual Jazz Festival”
Saturday, May 11, 2013
This year’s festival will host 29 competing High School and Middle School Big Bands and Combos from as far north as San Jose and as far south as Dana Point. There will be special performances by the award winning Santa Barbara HS Jazz Combo and the Los Angeles County HS for the Arts. These two combos are comprised of amazing young musicians, including Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival finalists, Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight semi-finalists, and Grammy Jazz Camp finalists.
SBHS Music Director Charles Ortega, will welcome a distinguished panel of judges, in 3 performance venues, including Central Coast college and university music directors and esteemed USC Thornton School of Music professors Aaron Serfaty and Jason Goldman.
Delicious Southern Smokehouse BBQ and American Comfort food will be available between 11am-3pm (entrees and sides $3.50 - $8). Breakfast items (in a.m.), coffee, drinks, snacks will also be available throughout the day.
There will be a full day of wonderful music from 8:30am – 5pm. $8 for adults and $5 for students. Stay tuned for the upcoming performance schedule at:

Spring Choral Concerts
May 10th - 12th at 7:00 pm
Saint Anthony's Chapel
The A Cappella Choir, Madrigal Singers, Men's & Women's Ensembles, under the direction of Phillip McLendon, will present their annual Spring Concerts on May 10, 11, & 12, all at 7 PM
in the great accoustical space of St. Anthony's Chapel, 2300 Garden Street
. Come and hear great choral music from the Renaissance to the 21st century including a capella arrangements of jazz, doo-wop, and pop classics.

Toyota of Santa Barbara
AfterProm FaceBook Contest!
Toyota of Santa Barbara is holding a contest for After Prom.
One student (From ANY GRADE, doesn't have to be a senior!) from San Marcos, Dos Pueblos, and Santa Barbara has the opportunity to showcase their spirit and win $1000! In order to compete you must take or create a picture that shows your school and it's spirit. (Make sure to include SBHS logo as well as Toyota of SB on the pic) Part of the decision on "Best Post" is likes and shares but it also must be appropriate. Most likes won't guarantee a win but is a part of the decision. The photo must be posted on the Toyota of Santa Barbara Facebook page.

There will also be an iPad raffled off at After Prom but this is limited to seniors and you must be present to win!

Town Hall Forum on Prescription Drug Abuse
May 13th at 6:30 pm
SB Central Library - Faulkner Gallery
A series of Town Hall Forums will take place the week of May 13th on the subject of Prescription Drug Abuses. The first of its kind in the City of Santa Barbara, the forum will include the documentary film, "Behind the Orange Curtain" as well as a panel of five speakers in the field. The forum will be held at the Faulkner Room in the Main Library at 6:30 pm.
The goal of the forum is to inform all the parents of middle and high school students of the dangers of prescription drug abuses in our community.

The Santa Barbara Education Foundation
Summer School
Santa Barbara Education Foundation is offering for-credit classes to students entering grades 9 through 12 who want to get ahead. Students can earn five to ten units of high school credit during the summer, acquiring the flexibility to take more advanced classes or more electives in the school year.
The program will be hosted on the San Marcos High School campus, but will be open to all high school students, including incoming freshman, regardless of what school they attend. Any student aged 12-18 can also take courses for non-credit.

Community Service Opportunity - Arlington West
Sunday, May 5th
Volunteers are needed to set up the grave markers for Arlington West on the beach next to the Santa Barbara pier at Stearn's Wharf on Sunday, May 5.
You can help after setup with reading names of recently fallen (10 a.m.-3 p.m.)
Please schedule time to support the Santa Barbara Chapter 54 of Veterans For Peace in this project. Setup is from 7:30 - 9:30am and take down is from 3:30 - 5pm. Help is especially needed during take down at 3:30.
