"Wild About Ojai" presents Chumash Ethnobotany
I'm honored to be part of this special weekend of Chumash education
Join Jan Timbrook in the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy Offices at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, for a fascinating exploration of how Pre-Columbian Chumash peoples used and thought about plants.
Then on Sunday, February 9, join me for the first Herb Walk on the Fox Canyon Trail on the new Valley View Preserve.
An anthropologist and ethnobotanist, Jan is Curator of Ethnobotany at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. She has been with the museum for more than thirty-five years and is one of the top experts in Chumash studies. She has collaborated on four books, and has authored a dozen scientific papers on topics ranging from herbal medicine to environmental management by the Chumash.

With the drought on everyone's mind these days, what's a gardener to do? Plant drought-resistent natives, that's what. And that's why we've invited Jessica Thompson, founder and owner/contractor of Green Goddess Gardens, to join us for an Herb Walk on West Sulphur Mountain Road trail on Sunday, February 23.
After earning a B.S. in Horticulture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1988, Jessica studied and received a certificate in Permaculture. She then got her Contractors State License in Landscaping and started her own business.
Jessica uses California natives whenever possible in her naturalistic "water-wise" landscapes and is eager to share her years of experience with you and me.
