Greetings Members and Friends of Community of ChristChurch,
Happy New Year and Blessed Epiphany to you all!
This Tuesday, January 5th (Twelfth Night), marks the end of the twelve days of Christmas. And what a wonderful Christmas season it has been here at ChristChurch. The birth of Emmanuel (God With Us) was heralded with beautiful music and celebration on Christmas Eve and again last Sunday. I am so thankful for everyone who helped to make this season such a special and meaningful time.
This Sunday, (January 3rd) will be the last Sunday in the Christmas season. On that day in worship we will hear John’s unique take on the nativity story (… and the Word became flesh…!) Then, on Wednesday, January 6th, the season of Epiphany is upon us. This season continues until Ash Wednesday (February 10th) and the beginning of the season of Lent.
During the season of Epiphany, the focus is traditionally on light, specifically Christ as the light of the world. The light of Christ will be revealed as we explore the Gospel of Mark in worship each week. Come and praise God and hear the stories of Jesus, God’s Messiah, the fulfillment of all that God has promised for us and for the world.
Also, during the Epiphany season we will take a break from our Sunday Morning Adult Faith Conversations. May our time after worship during this season be filled with loving community and conversation… and of course good coffee and treats! Adult Faith Conversations will resume with ANIMATE: PRACTICES during the season of Lent. Look for more details coming soon!
I give thanks to God for all the ways the light of Christ continues to be revealed to me in this community of faith. May your New Year be blessed with the Epiphany of Christ’s presence in your life!
God’s peace,
Pastor David
