Vocalist/composer Molly Holm, with her all-star jazz trio, makes her Red Poppy debut exploring the multicultural crossroads of improvised music through original compositions, straight-ahead and modal jazz tunes and traditional folk songs. Molly's music, often intertwined with the elements of North Indian raga, experimental vocals, or playful free-form improvisation, also reveals the rhythmic and note-bending influences inherited from the music of the African diaspora.

My First Video Project - Soon to be Uploaded
After many hours of production work (at a true Molly-like pace), I am pretty darn close to releasing video shorts from my last concert at the Freight & Salvage. I have been reviewing footage, selecting songs, mixing the live audio tracks, writing and editing credits and taking steps to obtain sync licenses.
My goal: to upload the video song segments onto my website & a new You Tube channel. You will then SEE & HEAR a lot of outstanding performances by my FAB band!
(I keep reminding myself that the tortoise won the race with the hare--but I'm not sure who I am racing here!) |

Rinny Zin Records Begins Molly's New CD
Early in March, I invited my 5-member a cappella women's ensemble, The Impermanent Project, plus four other singers, up to Mesa Recording in Sebastopol. With the help of producer Frank Martin, we recorded a new long-tone piece that I have been developing, as well as my own spontaneously-composed, chant-like pieces in the tradition of Bobby McFerrin's circle-singing structure. I love to utilize polyrhythmic phrases, often with an African 6/8 feel, and tight-clustered harmonies that create a kind of haunting and mesmerizing soundscape. |
