The Tenacity of a Community: How Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park Succeeded
Over ten years ago, the City of New York overrode the local Community Board’s vote against rezoning the land. This decision would mean catastrophe for the areas around the waterfront. When land can be developed for residential or commercial purposes, infrastructure alway has to be considered. If you take a look at the population of Brooklyn about its open land, the infrastructure has little room to adjust. Unfortunately, the City of New York had little consideration for this. While a park was promised during this time, without the diligence and tenacity of the community, it would never have come to fruition.

NAG’s Gala and New Project: Shareware!
Neighbors Allied for Good Growth (NAG) is one of North Brooklyn’s oldest grassroots advocacy organizations. Trans-Am Friends Group Meeting
On Thursday, December 1, OSA’s Greenpoint Parks Stewardship Program rolled out friends groups for Transmitter Park and American Playground. With 45 people in attendance, and nearly 20 others who expressed interest, but couldn’t attend, these two new friends groups are off to a fast start! OSA also introduced a new website for Friends of Transmitter Park, and a website for Friends of American Playground is under construction.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 11 at 6:30 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 155 Milton Street, which will focus on community input and priorities, and building a strong engine for both groups. The volunteerism and the financial support these groups will develop will take Transmitter Park and American Playground a long way!
WHEN: Wednesday, January 11, 6:30 PM
WHERE: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 155 Milton Street
