By working together as a community, we were able to claim our park that was owed to us and inspire the next generation of eco heroes. What's Green at PS 110?
Intro by PS 110 Sustainability Coach, Fran Agnone: Fifth Grader Louise Oppenheimer is one of several students at PS 110 working closely with math teacher Matt DiCarlo on an ongoing student blog documenting the sustainability efforts across the school. I am humbled to introduce the following article that Louise chose to highlight my work at the schools. It is a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful and supportive school community where we can all work together to bring sustainability efforts alive. Green STEM Education at PS 34
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM education is an interdisciplinary and applied approach to solving problems and understanding how the world works. Green STEM does this within the context of the students’ own communities, challenging them to solve problems that exist around them and thereby, making the experience more relevant and inspiring.

Eco Hero: Allison Currier
Anyone who’s been to one of the Neighbors Allied for Good Growth’s (NAG) events will most likely hear the laughter of Allison Currier. Her infectious personality and bubbly smile will motivate anyone to get involved. That’s why we’ve highlighted her as our Go Green BK’s eco-hero in November.

Eco Hero: Lisa Bloodgood
Lisa Bloodgood has been the much beloved Community Liaison and Environmental Advisor to
City Council Member Stephen Levin for the last 5.5 years. Lisa is a self-described nature-loving plant nerd (amature botanist) and artist. She has had the privilege and burden of shepherding the community through the full variety of our ecological and toxicity issues and, consequently, is a beacon of information for the many ways that we can make a difference.

Eco Heroes: Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park
On November 22, 2016, Mayor De Blasio’s office announced the $160 million acquisition of the last parcel needed to complete
Bushwick Inlet Park. The tireless grassroots campaign by local community members and elected officials, led by
Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park (FBIP), proved successful. In honor of that, we’re re-publishing our Heroes of Bushwick Inlet Park story (originally published in September:

Networking and BQX Presentation
On Thursday, December 8th the Greenpoint and Brooklyn Chambers of Commerce are sponsoring an evening of socializing and learning about the proposed BQX. The BQX is a state-of-the-art streetcar system that will be efficient and emissions-free and it will run on tracks flush with the existing roadway without overhead wires or underground power sources. The Woods is generously offering participants one free drink, and light snacks will be provided. Please RSVP for space is limited.

Gowanus Neighborhood Planning Study
On Thursday, December 8 there will be a planning meeting to listen, learn and give feedback on how resiliency and sustainability efforts and interventions are central to the Gowanus Neighborhood Planning Study. Attendees will learn about existing and future anticipated risks, what agencies are working on locally and citywide to address these risks, and how the community can help shape sustainability and resiliency in Gowanus (there will also be a recap and update on what we heard from the kickoff meeting and next steps, including how the community and stakeholders can stay involved and help shape the Planning Framework (See the their website for details). The Department of City Planning, government agencies and elected officials will be in attendance to talk about how sustainability and resiliency impact the future of Gowanus.

Greencycle Holiday Swap
Since 2009, Town Square has been promoting environmental consciousness at the local level through their Greencycle Swaps. They firmly believe that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
Town Square invites community members to recycle, reuse and reduce! Cleaned, gently-used & working items can be dropped off, and for a $5 donation participants can take as many “riches” as they can carry. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag to carry their new-found treasures home.
