At least that's how the song goes! With the weather finally changing (for the moment anyway), it's time to switch gears and start thinking of the upcoming holiday season! And, we have you covered! Coming up next is the Lakeview Christmas Market. Whether you're in the mood to purchase your tree, shop for friends & family or just looking to get out of the cold and enjoy some music, kids' activities (with Santa!) or an adult beverage or two, this Market is a one-stop-shop! Also, don't forget to sign up for the New Year's Day 5K ... it's a great way to start your new year (plus, right now, registration is only $25 through the end of the month). Stay warm out there!

Get the holiday spirit! With the Christmas season in full swing, there's no better way to celebrate than at this NEW happening in West Lakeview, just steps from the bustling Lincoln Avenue, Belmont and Ashland intersection.
Held under a HUGE HEATED TENT, Lakeview Christmas Market will feature music, carolers from local schools, arts & craft gift vendors, food, beer and warm seasonal beverages, and a fun-filled "Kids' Korner" with art activities. There will also be outdoor "tree farm" where visitors can buy a Christmas tree (or a wreath or garland). PLUS there will be visits from good ole St. Nick on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Among the local schools/organizations set to sing holiday tunes on the music stage are those from Whitney Young High School, the DANK Haus German-American Cultural Center, Misericordia's Heartbreakers choir, Lincoln Park High School, Northside College Prep and St. Luke Academy.

New Year's Day 5K Run/Walk

Here's a smart resolution for the coming year: Start it off on a healthy footing at Chicago's New Year's Day 5K Run & Walk, the city's first official 5K of 2013. Now celebrating its 28th year, this iconic event is an annual fave with Windy City fitness enthusiasts!
An estimated 1,500 runners and walkers are expected to lace up on the first day of the New Year at the run & walk that starts at the south end of Lincoln Park. The course route wends north along the lakefront bike path to Diversey Harbor before returning to Stockton & LaSalle.
A portion of run/walk proceeds will benefit the Lake View Citizens' Council, a non-profit neighborhood organization. In addition, there will be a post-event party at a cozy neighborhood establishment that includes the awarding of winner trophies and raffle prizes.

Think spring! Registration for one of the Midwest's fastest-growing running events, the Rockford (IL) Marathon, is now open. Even better? There's an awesome EARLY-BIRD DISCOUNT when you sign on before December 31!
Located just an hour's drive northwest of Chicago, runners have the option to participate in either a full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles) or a 10K (6.2 mile run).
Nearly 1,500 runners participated in the 2012 marathon on its course route along the scenic Rock River. Since it was re-launched in 2008 with a little more than 900 runners, the event's popularity increases each year. In fact, it draws participants from more than 25 states.
The marathon is USATF (USA Track & Field)-certified and presented in conjunction with the Rockford Area Convention & Tourism Bureau. In addition, a portion of proceeds benefit the invaluable services of the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
