RETROTOURS NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 2015
It's finally Autumn, the best time of year for riding.
The temperatures are starting to moderate and the leaves will be changing color soon. It's been a long hot summer and I have sobeen looking forward to cooler temperatures.
There are three scheduled rides left in 2015, but we can always schedule a custom tour for any size group.
The ride to Bill's Old Bike Barn at the end of August was a large group: 11 bikes. There were seasoned veterans and newbies along so keeping the group together was a challenge. One group came down from Buffalo while a second group consisted of local riders. Each group consisted of 3 brothers and a few friends. There were computer programmers and financial advisers mixed in with carpenters and truck drivers. Quite a mix! We stayed in luxury log cabins and covered 350 miles in 2 days, with a 90 minute visit to the museum. The bikes were also a mixed bag.
Mostly Japanese but with a Harley, a Triumph and a Guzzi along for seasoning. PLUS, two riders wanted to ride their own bikes and did: A 1970R75 and a late model Harley. It worked our pretty well and if anyone wants to 'roll your own' just let me know.
So what's left for this year? I am prepping bikes like crazy for GYRO V. We'll be returning to the Nut House in West Virgin1a and most of the riders are from the Boston area. There is one open spot due to a cancellation is you were interested. It's a great ride to a fantastic area. Think about it, OK?
If you desire a classic bike experience with a bit less commitment, consider Local Loops II on October 4th. This one day adventure has 7 deposits at this point. That's a nice size group but I could certainly roll a few more bikes if there is interest.
The final tour is to Chincoteage Island, Virginia on October 17 & 18. Just three of us at this point, what can I do to help make it possible for you to join us? The ride down and back is entirely on DelMarVa back roads and the experience is unique and the NASA launch facility on the island is the icing on the cake. You'll see wild horses!
I want to return to the Barber Museum. Have you been? It is quite amazing and a must see destination for any true classic bike enthusiast. RetroTours has made the trip half a dozen times including once for opening day. It's been a while and I am ready to do it again. I just need a few hard core, experienced, physically fit capable riders. This trip will be life changing and is not for beginners. Check out the ride report from 2012 at www.retrotours.com . A visit to the museum is awesome anytime but how about if we time the trip to the largest vintage festival/swap meet in the country? That would be the 2nd weekend in October, the 8th and 9th 2016.
AM I GIVING YOU ENOUGH NOTICE???
And if the visit to the museum and the spectacle of the annual vintage festival is not enough, we'll ride down on classic bikes specially prepared for the trip. It will take four 350 back road mile days each way. We'll stop when we're too tired to go on, staying at cheap motels with 3 nights in a cabin in Alabama. Two days at the Barber makes this a 10 day trip, leaving Tuesday, September 27tyh and returning Thursday, October 6th. On the way we'll ride The Dragon, The Cherohalla Skyway, The Blue Ridge Parkway, The Foothills Parkway and more. We'll also work in a visit to Wheels Through Time at Maggie Valley.
YOU CAN TICK A WHOLE LOT OF BOXES OFF YOUR BUCKET LIST!
Give it some thought, would you?
