A Rough Time for Chile
| This has been a tough month for Chile, with one of the worst earthquakes in history destroying property, halting trade, and upending the lives of many. We've run some blog posts on the travel situation there and you can find more ongoing details on the Southern Cone blog.
Thankfully Chile has its act together better than any other country in South America, with the most transparent government, the least corruption, and the strongest building codes. That last one kept the death toll relatively low compared to what it could have been like in many other South American countries.
Keep an eye on the news for aid organizations that could use your help
and if you're planning a trip there, note that some parts of the
country (like Patagonia and Atacama) were not harmed. Expect surface transportation problems though as this is a skinny country without many alternate routes.

What's New in Luxury Latin America?
| Our writers have mostly been out there filling in a few remaining holes in our luxury hotel coverage.
In the past month we posted a review of the new W Hotel in Santiago and the revamped Tivoli Mofarrej São Paulo in Brazil.
We've also added a couple of notable hotels in Guatemala: the relatively new La Reunion Golf Resort outside Antiqua and eco-luxe Laguna Lodge on Lake Atitlan. See them in our Guatemala Luxury Hotels section.

Coming Soon
The best way to keep up with new items as they go up is to subscribe to the RSS feed of our blog. There I also toss in notable travel news from Latin America, reviews of airlines active there, and the occasional relevant book or spirits review. You can also follow us on Twitter at LuxLatinamerica.
Soon we'll be adding two more Brazil hotel reviews, our first in Cozumel, and a couple brand spanking new places in Peru. Also, shortly we'll be publishing a real estate feature on the highly-touted Ecuadorian city of Cuenca.
And as always, we'll have some of our expert writers out exploring the horizons with select luxury tour companies.
Stay tuned!
