Reviews of the Best in São Paulo and Rio
| For a lot of reasons, we've been slow to get our Brazil coverage going, but despite the size of the country, there hasn't been all that much to cover anyway. Five years ago you either stayed at the one great hotel in town or...somewhere else.
You can still count the luxury hotels in São Paulo and Rio on one hand, but now we've got detailed reviews of all five posted, fresh from a visit by our correspondents Lorie and Paul Bennett. Apparently the lack of competition has keep prices at the highest level on the continent: some of these city hotels have double rooms starting at $650 a night and you'd be hard-pressed to say they top similar hotels in Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Lima going for far less. You're still going to need the budget of an iron ore magnate to spend much time in these places, especially if you want a suite.
We have another writer traveling up the coast this summer and we'll add several of the top Brazilian beach resorts then. Stay tuned.

The Atacama Desert of Chile
| We've had our eye on the Atacama Desert region of Chile for a while and have been itching to get someone into this remote wonderland to really get a feel for the tourism scene there.
Emma Fox came through and reviewed the three luxury hotels there. She also tried out a variety of adventures in the region (tough job) and put together Excursions in the Atacama Desert. If you're thinking of visiting this bizarre area at some point, this will give you a primer on what's available. Check the Chile Hotels page for reviews of Awasi, Tierra Atacama, and explora's Hotel de Larache.

Coming Soon
We've got new reviews coming up from Panama, including the highly anticipated second opening from the Bristol group. I'll be visiting Los Cabos at the end of May, Swine Flu/Schwine Flu media hype be damned. We've also got a Salta/Cafayate wine tour feature coming, a few real estate rundowns in different markets, and a tour of northern Patagonia in Argentina.
