Regular Video 100 Times More Popular Than Online Video
Online video viewing may be growing at a rate of 32 percent, but online viewing is still a tiny fraction of the overall viewing time.
During 2008 490 billion person-hours of traditional television were consumed according to a recent Magna Online Video Forecast. This equates to 244 times more consumption of professional content video than of online video. Even assuming last year's growth rate continues through 2012, traditional TV would still account for 98 times more consumption.
Nevertheless, while spending on traditional TV ads decline, online video advertising is growing at a healthy clip. In total, by 2011, the study projects online video to generate slightly more than $1 billion in net advertising revenues for video content. This represents a compounded annual growth rate of 36% for each year between 2006 and 2011.

Twitter Still "Just a Blip"
A recent Harris poll found that, despite the media's infatuation with Twitter, only 5 percent of the general population is actually using it. Among those 55 and over, the figure was 1 percent and among the highest-use bracket---those 18 to 34---it was only 8 percent.
While 48% of the general population has a Facebook or MySpace account, only 16% are the power users who actively update it on a daily basis.
This doesn't mean, of course, that social media isn't important. It just needs to be kept in perspective in terms of overall reach. See the full breakdown.
Food for Thought
- Next year the world is predicted to produce 988 "exabytes" of digital data, equivalent to nearly 18 times the amount of information in all the books ever written.
- Nice recession: sales of wine, beer, and spirits are on pace to rise 4.8 percent this year.
- According to an Ohio State University study, college students who don't have a Facebook account have a higher GPA and study twice as many hours as those who have one.
- Magazines hitting the permanent trash heap: Portfolio (finally), Atlanta Woman, Television Week, Hunt Club Digest, Wildlife Conservation. (But the struggling Boston Globe got all the headlines.)
