Barefoot Faithful, Atomic Tourism, and an Untitled Story About Asolo
The new issue of Perceptive Travel is out now. We promise another set of travel stories the likes of which you are guaranteed not to find within the pages of your average newsstand travel mag. We do have one thing in common with them this month though: two articles about Italy. Well, one about Italy and one about Sardinia actually, and of course we're not going to tell you what wine you must drink and which Venetian inn you simply must stay in while you're there.
Instead we've got a feature-length story that's tangentially about the town of Asolo, but also about a gifted writer being told he may only have a year left to live. In "Running with Faith," our Sardinia guidebook writer gets permission to take part in a bizarre barefoot pilgrimage run on sharp stones, despite the fact he's the wrong religion.
For the story "Atomic Tourism and Secret Cities," I spent a few trips immersing myself in something I knew very little about---the Manhattan Project that produced the first A-bomb---which took me to Los Alamos, Albuquerque, and Oak Ridge. Last, Laurence Mitchell returns to review some world music CDs worth checking out.

Excuse me, do you have a pen?
Thanks to everyone who entered the contest to score the Lowe Alpine convertible carry-on backpack. The winner was reader Lauren from San Francisco.
This month we're giving away two Wallet Pens. These are cool little sterling silver pens that clip into your wallet without making it any fatter. Then you always have a pen with you no matter what, so they're great for travel or just bopping around town and needing to write down a phone message. A $50 value to two people who can answer the following correctly.
1) Where were the first atomic bombs actually assembled?
2) What does "Corsa degli Scalzi" mean?
Remember, the answers are easily found in this month's issue! Send your answers and physical mailing address to editor@perceptivetravel.com or just reply to this newsletter.
