August 26, 2019
Greetings!
Five days left to enter our 11th annual
Flash Fiction Contest featuring a $1,000 prize and a low entry fee of $6. The deadline is Saturday, August 31. Except for the 1,000 word limit, no rules! We are open to any subject, genre or writing style.
Second prize wins $100 and four honorable mentions each receive $25. All six finalists will be published online in our October 2019 issue.
All five dozen previous finalists may be read online
here.
We have notified the winners of our Short Story Contest. First prize goes to Susann Cokal for "A Spoon Will Catch the Dark Girls' Pain." This powerful, disturbing story traces the career of Dr. J. Marion Sims, so-called "father of modern gynecology" who performed experimental surgeries on enslaved black women.
Second prize: "A Starting Place" by Stephanie Renée Payne. Honorable mentions: "Twins" by Bonnie West, "Memoirs of Amazonia" by Sabrina Ross, and "Dave & Stranger" by E.S. Rodriguez. We hope to have the issue featuring all the winning stories online within a few days.
No-fee
general submissions remain open year round.
Peace!
