What to Watch from Boston Jewish Film

Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, begins tonight. As always, we will be remembering the victims of the Shoah through their stories. We will be watching documentaries and narrative films which preserve the memories of those who survived and those who perished.

Through interviews conducted 30 years ago, in
Soul Witness: The Brookline Holocaust Witness Project (Director, R. Harvey Bravman) presents the stories of survivors from our own community.

Who Will Write Our History? (BJFF 2017)
This remarkable film, tells the story of the
Oyneg Shabes, a group of journalists, scholars, and community leaders who risked their lives to preserve the stories of the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto.

Denial (BJF 2016)
Holocaust studies professor Deborah Lipstadt (portrayed here by Rachel Weisz) was sued for libel when she named a Holocaust denier in her book. This is the story of how she fought for historical truth.

Son of Saul (BJFF 2015)
One of the most stunning portrayals of the Holocaust we have seen is in the Academy Award-winning film,
Son of Saul. Through tight, hand-held shots, the film is claustrophobic and haunting, portraying Auschwitz-Birkenau through the eyes of a Sonderkommando.

Chika, the Dog in the Ghetto
In this animated short for audiences of all ages, Chika the dog and the 5-year-old Mikasch live in a Jewish ghetto. When the Germans arrive, Chicka helps Mikasch.
