Minnie & Garland Adkins, Rooster 1991 | carved tree, paint | 8"w (at base) x 45 1/2"h x 16"d | $900
Sue and I bought this on our first trip to Isonville, KY in 1990. We got an invitation to the second annual 4th of July picnic in the lunch room of the town's only school. We met Minnie and Garland at their home in a holler two days later and bought this. Minnie had carved a rooster in a living tree on their property that must have been 12 feet high. | |
In the gallery through August 31, 2011, Animals in Art: TNT! celebrates the human fascination with animals as expressed in artwork from different times, places, and traditions (or non-traditions). Animals are a subject in art that is unifying, since it is common to artists across time and place, and since viewers with varying tastes can relate to this universally loved theme. Whether representational, imaginary, or somewhere in between, and whether made with fine art materials, or materials scavenged from the world of the artist, everybody can get excited about animals in art!
