Spring is always an extremely busy time for Essex Art Center as we gear up for an exciting array of new programs. This weekend we’re hosting a dynamic dance, music, and visual arts event in partnership with Izizwe Dance Studio. By sharing our space with performing artists and smaller organizations, we elevate and enhance the arts ecosystem in our community.
In preparation for this summer’s Public Art Intensive, we’ve been working with Lawrence resident Mekhi Mendoza, who will serve as the mentor artist for local youth. Importantly, this is a paid opportunity for youth in which they gain professional skills and learn what it takes to make community-inspired public art.
We’re also working with regional artists to help them select their best work to show and sell at our Salon Show + Art Sale, which opens Saturday, July 16. That day is also set as our big summer block party, Fiesta en la calle, which elevates creative practices of all kinds while keeping the arts visible and accessible in our community.
And as always, we’re working with students and families to find the perfect class to advance their creative skills. The demand for our free and reduced-cost fine arts education programming continues to rise. Did you know that Essex Art Center has given $22,416.20 already this fiscal year in tuition aid to students who would otherwise not have access to our professionally led fine arts curriculum?
Thank you for helping bring more art into our community! |
