50 Years in the Making: Cabaret and SCP
|
|
|
As befits SCP’s 50th anniversary season, the musical
Cabaret is a quinquagenarian (or semi-centenarian, if you will) in that it has passed the 50 year milestone. In fact,
Cabaret has been around for nearly 52 years now. In that time, it has been performed countless thousands of times to enthralled audiences the world over and is among the top 30 longest running shows on Broadway since its 1998 revival.
Cabaret originally opened on Broadway on November 20, 1966, and played for 1,165 performances at the Broadhurst, Imperial, and Broadway Theatres. In 1972, the show was adapted into a film directed by Bob Fosse that won eight Academy Awards. The show was then later revised twice on Broadway—the first time in 1987, when it played for 261 performances at the Imperial and Minskoff Theatres, and again in 1998 at Studio 54, where it played for a whopping 2,377 performances. In 2014,
Cabaret returned to Broadway at Studio 54, playing an additional 388 performances.
And now,
Cabaret opens at the Sunnyvale Theatre on November 3 with a limited-run of 10 performances through November 18.
So on behalf of this very special quinquagenarian, willkommen to
Cabaret! Guten Abend, Bon Soir, Good Evening! Leave your troubles outside…In
Cabaret, life is beautiful, everyone is beautiful…even the orchestra is beautiful! So don't miss out. Join us and celebrate SCP's 50th anniversary with a show as powerful and relevant today as it was 52 years ago. See you all at
Cabaret!
