Tobacco growers are urging governments to open a line of formal dialogue in order to promote discussion with governments and international bodies about the challenges the sector is facing due to the decreased demand for tobacco products in the absence of viable alternative crops. Continued declines in the demand for tobacco products will lead some African countries to a drastic drop in employment and family income without a concerted effort to find alternatives for tobacco growers..
