The musical evolution of Old Blind Dogs began in Aberdeen in 1992 with roots that grew from the eclectic music scene that flourished in the Granite City during the early 90s. Four musicians from very different musical backgrounds came together to create a full-time professional touring band with the aim of showcasing the rich tradition of songs and tunes of the North East of Scotland on an international stage.

Mattias Thedens is one of Norway's emerging talents on the Hardanger Fiddle, Norway’s national instrument. The Celtic Society of the Monterey Bay welcomes this talented musician playing solo in intimate house concert in Santa Cruz; a rare chance to hear and learn about this unique fiddle tradition.

Raised in a musical family, Mattias plays tunes from the valleys of Tovdal and Setesdal in southern Norway, with Telemark as his main focus. In 2023 he won the National competition, where he was one of the youngest competitors. Whether playing solo, competing, or performing with Gangar, a folk rock band he formed in 2020, he’s passionate about sharing this rich tradition and keeping it moving forward.
