San Francisco, CA, 2 March 2017 – A special edition of the weekly group run sponsored by A Runner’s Mind retailer will highlight the documentary film in production, SAN QUENTIN MARATHON. The event will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017, starting at 7:00pm, and will feature veteran competitive marathoners who are volunteer coaches of San Quentin’s Running Club leading the run. After the run, all are invited to a reception at the retail store at 3575 Sacramento Street, San Francisco, which will include a video screening of the film’s trailer and a Q&A with the San Quentin coaches and filmmaker Christine Yoo, with complimentary refreshments. All runners and others interested are invited to either part of the event.

Who:
Frank Ruona, Volunteer head coach since the 1000 Mile Club’s 2005 inception
A veteran of 78 marathons and 38 ultra-marathons, including The Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run, he was recognized as the #1 Road Runner in the nation for ages 55-59 by USA Track & Field. Ruona also currently coaches for the elite Tamalpa Running Club of Marin County. A retired executive of Ghilotti Brother’s Inc. and life-long registered Republican, Ruona has become more attuned to the US prison system over the years volunteering at San Quentin, and now finds himself questioning how we as a society treat those who are incarcerated.
Kevin Rumon,Assistant Coach of the 1000 Mile Club
An engineer and veteran marathon runner, Kevin recently battled cancer and credits the strength and endurance he has from running with helping him get through the brutal treatment.
Diana Fitzpatrick, Assistant Coach of the 1000 Mile Club
An attorney and veteran marathon runner, Diana qualified for the Olympic marathon trials in 1992, 1996, and 2000.
Jim Maloney, Community Volunteer for the 1000 Mile Club
Jim is a transportation and economic development consultant and veteran marathon runner who discovered his love for trail racing when he ran his first Dipsea Race over 20 years ago.
Dylan Bowman, Community Volunteer for the 1000 Mile Club
A professional ultra-marathoner living in Mill Valley, CA, Dylan also works as the Director of Endurance for sports technology company, Hypoxico Altitude Training.

Christine directed, produced, and wrote her debut feature film
Wedding Palace and licensed the film for N. American distribution to Warner Brothers and Gravitas. After a 12-week US theatrical run in 6 major markets, the film can currently be seen on Amazon and numerous VOD/SVOD platforms. Internationally, Yoo licensed the film for theatrical distribution throughout Asia, global SVOD platforms, satellite and cable TV, airlines and sell-through markets. She co-wrote the anime series

About SAN QUENTIN MARATHON
SAN QUENTIN MARATHON is an independent feature film currently in production. Directed by Christine Yoo, it documents the making of marathon runners inside San Quentin State Prison. The film follows prisoners as they train with their volunteer coaches for the annual race, navigating the complexities of incarceration and their own emotions. The film will explore the transformative power of running not only on current and former inmates, but their coaches as well.
