The movie includes the testimony of another abortionist. She would never have the unsanitary conditions that Gosnell had; she used only properly trained staff, etc. She especially would never have a live birth. She would inject the baby’s heart with a lethal substance while the baby was still in the womb. If a live birth somehow did happen, “comfort care” would be given, and eventually the fetus “would pass.” It is clear that while the methods may be more sanitary, the result is still death – of a baby large enough to normally require the skull to be collapsed before being removed from the uterus. The movie also illustrates the “hands off” attitude of some other doctors, the media, and even the health department, who had not inspected Gosnell’s clinic for 17 years, in spite of complaints. The DA was insistent that the case would not threaten a woman’s “right to choose” – and they better win because if they failed it would be seen as an attack on abortion rights. Gosnell was convicted of 3 counts of first degree murder of babies born alive, and manslaughter of a woman who died, and is now serving a life sentence without parole.
The movie is important to see because it a dramatic illustration of truth about abortion.
