Education: Recent reports of Iceland “eliminating” Downs syndrome in their country illustrates how that nation is targeting children with Downs for abortion.(1)Women are encouraged to have pre-natal testing done, and encouraged to abort if their child is indicated to have Downs. The test is only 85% accurate, however. A few Downs children are still being born, either because mothers chose not to test, not to abort, or the results were inaccurate. Prayer: Dear Father God, please bless those individuals that are burdened with physical or mental handicaps, and help them to realize their full potential. Help their families to care for them with love and respect, and find support from the community.Help us all to see every individual you have created with your eyes, a child you have created in your own image.Help parents who have a handicapped child in the womb to resist pressure to abort and rather accept the child into their family as a gift from you.

Action: Try to be more aware of handicapped individuals you may encounter around you. Think about how you might offer to help them, while respecting their independence. Support laws to protect handicapped preborn children from abortion.
If a pregnant friend is having testing to determine if their child has a genetic disorder, talk to them about how families can adapt to and find support for the challenge of raising a handicapped child. Share with them that Downs children can be seen as a real blessing! (5)
