Education: Abortion facilities don’t exist in a vacuum. They depend on other companies to provide certain needs. All medical facilities have to properly dispose of biohazardous waste, including any material that has come in contact with someone’s blood. In the case of abortion clinics, this medical waste includes the remains of aborted children. This waste is generally picked up by a company which disposes of it safely. There are a limited number of such companies, producing a “weak link” in the network of services and employees that an abortion clinic needs to survive.

In 2016, the Ohio-based pro-life group Created Equal launched #ProjectWeakLink to persuade biomedical waste disposal companies to stop “enabling” abortion clinics by disposing of their medical waste. (1) Stericycle, the country’s largest waste disposal company, had a policy of not accepting fetal remains, but it was determined that they were the only company used for waste disposal by Planned Parenthood of northeast Ohio, so either by neglect or intent, Stericycle was in fact processing fetal remains. After an unsuccessful lawsuit to stop the publicity campaign by Created Equal, the company announced that it had cancelled hundreds of contracts with abortion facilities. In November of 2017, Created Equal launched Phase 2 of Project Weak Link, to target Specific Waste Industries, which provided services to Planned Parenthood in the Midwest. Only a few days after the campaign began, SWI announced that it had ceased to provide services to abortion clinics.(2)

Prayer: Dear Father God, please help all business owners and managers to understand that when they do business with an abortion clinic, they are helping to enable that clinic to continue their work of killing preborn children. Give these business decision-makers the courage to risk lowering their income by refusing to do business with abortion clinics. Bless them with other clients that will allow their businesses to prosper. Please allow pro-life advocates to respectfully approach companies which serve the abortion industry and encourage them to cease doing so. .

Action: If you are employed at a medical facility, find out which company provides them with biohazardous waste disposal. Then try to find out if that company also serves abortion clinics. If so, see if you can encourage the medical facility to inform the waste disposal company that they do not want to do business with a company that enables abortion clinics by providing that service. Talk to your contacts who have businesses that might have occasion to serve abortion clinics, and encourage them to refrain from doing business with them. |
