Dear families,
Get ready for the Trifecta!
With fall in the air, we have three days of fun for you!
Our beautiful Lantern Walk will be held this coming Thursday evening, November 10th. This is one of my favorite festivals each year, as I have watched our community grow from a handful of twinkling lantern lights dotting the park to an incredibly long snake of light weaving through the trees to song. After turning our clocks back this Sunday morning, this will be a time to welcome the darkness and bring our own light into it. Please see the information below with details. It is only one hour, but such a powerful one!
No School on Friday, November 11th, as it is the Veteran’s Day Holiday. Please contact Kari Rahni about helping to set up our Harvest Faire from the afternoon into the evening, as she needs many hands!

Saturday, November 12th, it will finally be here! Our incredible community Harvest Faire! We began this faire a year after we opened, and due to the uniqueness of the “village", good food, sweet music, storytelling and authentic crafts, it was not long before the crowd was too large for our space to hold. Since then, we have moved it twice and now a third time to our new Girl Scout Campsite location with added events! We expect this will be our biggest ever. Please remember to share the information with family and friends, post on social media and hang flyers. This event is totally parent run, and we could not be more thankful! And as a bonus, get ready to see a very rare occurrence - me in the poofiest dress you have ever seen me wear. Just have tea with the queen!
Warmly,
Lisa

Lantern Walk
Maple Village Waldorf School would like to invite you all to our annual Lantern Walk. It will be held Thursday, November 10th at Warlow Park in Long Beach from 4:30 to 5:30pm.
What is Lantern Walk:
The Lantern Walk festival that we celebrate at Maple Village has sprung out of the traditional holiday of Martinmas. This is a holiday where the inspiration of St. Martin’s goodness is honored by walking through the darkness singing and holding lanterns.
Our second graders are studying the lives of saints and learning how regular people can grow to do extraordinary things. As part of our evening we will be gathered to hear a song and story told by our second grade teacher and class. This is an opportunity for them to share with the school what is living in their classroom and a way for us to honor the roots of this beautiful night. The story that will be shared is about St. Martin’s kindness towards a beggar who he finds freezing outside a city. Martin used his sword to cut his own cloak in two pieces, giving one to the beggar. All of the songs we sing and the lanterns we make can serve to remind us of our own light which we can shine in the darkness.
Safety is very important; please be sure that your child stays close to you for the entire evening. All the the lanterns we make with the children are designed to be safe; with that said, they are holding real fire and will need to be continually monitored and may need guidance in how to safely hold their lanterns. When the evening comes to a close, the park is very dark, so be sure all of your personal items are safely stowed in your car before the story begins.
We hope that you and your family have an enjoyable evening and experience the radiance of this joyful fall festival. We ask that a mood of quietness and reverence be held once the lantern procession has begun. Please refrain from socializing and talking at this time. If you do not know the songs, take the time to learn them from your child or simply take in the experience of lantern light and sweet singing. At the end of the night, we will gather as one, and then we ask you to please leave the park in silence, as our teachers sing.
If you have any questions or concerns please bring them to your class teacher or room parents.
We look forward to an evening filled with song!

Glimmer, Lantern, Glimmer
Glimmer, lantern, glimmer
Little stars a-shimmer
Over meadow, moor and dale
Flitter, flutter, elfin veil
Pee-wit, pee-wit, tikka-tikka-tik
Rucoo, rucoo.
Glimmer, lantern, glimmer
Little stars a-shimmer
Over rock and stock and stone
Wandering, skipping, little gnome
Pee-wit, pee-wit, tikka-tikka-tik
Rucoo, rucoo.
The sunlight fast is dwindling,
My little lamp needs kindling.
Its beam shines far
in darkest night.
Dear lantern guard me
With your light.
My lantern! My lantern!
Shining near and far
Shining like the sun
Shining like the moon
Shining like a silver star
Burn Little Candle
Burn little candle through the night,
Show to us your flickering light,
Turn our darkness into day
and slowly melt away.

Annual Giving Campaign
Our Annual Giving drive has begun! We are asking all families to give in ANY amount, so that we can report 100% community participation when we apply to various educational grants.
If you haven't already, please share our fundraising site URL via social media with friends and family:
Maple Village Annual Giving and let them know that their donations will help fund further improvements to the play yard, more special subject teachers for enriching educational experiences, and more!
It only takes a moment to share a link on Facebook, but the net effect of our whole community doing so can be HUGE, so thank you all for your support!

Harvest Faire Corner
Hello Villagers!
We we are 1 week away from Harvest Faire! I hope you all are as excited as I am!!!! So many of you have come forward, in one way or another, to help and I can not thank you enough!
We have all but 3 roles in the Village complete; Inventor, Miner, Cobbler still need 1 person each to make 3, 2 hour shifts. If you think this sounds like something you or someone you know would like to do, please email me. We will help with costumes! I may ask for help with props though .
We also need helpers for the Craft tables day of. Again 2 hour shifts. Need about 10 people.
Okay now the fun news! We have a write up next Thursday in the Gazettes and possibly the Press Telegram! Look for it in print and online!
We will have access to the climbing wall on the campsite from 11-3pm! This thing is so cool!! The kids are going to have a blast! There is a new activity; Tea with the Queen that I am sooo excited about! We will also have some really amazing handmade vendors so you can start your Holiday shopping too! All activities and food will take tickets but vendors will accept cash and credit card.
We have some really talented musicians and singers lined up and If you are able, I suggest sticking around until the close of the Faire. We will have a few special treats to close out the day (hint: Knights, fire and drums)
Please invite you families, friends, neighbors and Facebook groups with kiddos! Let's show Long Beach (and surrounding areas) how amazing our school and community is!
In gratitude,
