Dear Parents,
Hands down, one of our most valuable advertising tools for enrolling new families is word of mouth. This means YOU! As we enter enrollment season, I invite you to help our community grow by sharing your joy of MVWS with others.
Here are a few ways to spread the word:
Invite them to our Walk Through the Classes - Thursday, Feb. 25 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. This is a rare opportunity to see our classes in action and have time to ask me questions about Waldorf education in general and the specifics of our school. We still have spots available, and parents can make a reservation by emailing
info@maplevillageschool.org or calling the office when we are back on Monday, Feb. 22. (see details below).
Invite them to the screening of Beyond Measure on February 25th (tickets sold in advance - see below for details). Christina and I will be representing our school in a panel discussion after the film, and we will have a table with information about our school.
A few school reminders:
We will be closed this coming week, Feb. 15 - 19 for Waldorf Conferences Week, when Waldorf teachers all over North America attend conferences to further their own education. School will resume Monday, Feb. 22nd.
We have noticed more tardies in the Grades classes after Winter Break, so if you have been struggling to arrive on time, please take this opportunity to start fresh and arrive before the 8:30am bell. It truly helps students to start with their classes and recite morning verse together. It is difficult for the student to jump in mid-stream and also distracts the class flow. You can do it!
Thank you all, and have a wonderful vacation week!

Parent Education Webinar
Wednesday, February 17, 2016, 5:00 PM PST
Dear Parents,
I wanted to share this valuable free parent education webinar opportunity provided by AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools of North America).
This is a first!!! I highly encourage you to register.
Invitation and registration link below.
Dear Parents and Community members,
We invite you to join the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America on Wednesday, February 17, for a co-hosted webinar with the Anthroposophical Society.
Soul Journey:
How the Waldorf Curriculum Unfolds Healthy Child Development,
Early Childhood through the Middle Years, with Elizabeth Roosevelt
Registration URL:
https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8652112347041373697
Elizabeth Roosevelt recently completed an 8-year journey as a class teacher at the Waldorf School of Atlanta, where she also served as Faculty Chair for the last three years. She is an active member of the Anthroposophical Society in America. Through anthroposophy, she finds the rejuvenating forces needed to meet any endeavor. In Waldorf teaching and school leadership, this path provides the foundation to meet others in their truest humanity so that we can indeed offer an education toward freedom.
Sincerely,
Beverly Amico
Executive Director, Advancement

We still have space available for our February Walk Through the Classes event on Thursday, February 25th at 9:00am!
Our Dean of Education, Lisa J. McCarthy, will take a small group of parents into each of our classrooms (preschool through 6th grade) to observe for a short time while the classes are in session. Afterwards, there will be time for questions and discussion. Walkthroughs are for adults only (babes in arms ok).

Beyond Measure
Presented by Little Owl Preschool,
Intellectual Virtues Academy &
Maple Village Waldorf School |
|
|
Thursday, February 25th
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
In
Race to Nowhere, director Vicki Abeles unveiled the dark side of America's achievement culture. In her follow up,
Beyond Measure, Abeles shows what's possible in education when we trust in the ingenuity of students, parents, and teachers. Communities transform education by putting research and proven, innovative models into practice. From rural Kentucky to New York City, we spotlight schools that are breaking away from our outmoded, test-driven education culture and pioneering a new vision for our classrooms.
Beyond Measure fills a void that too many other education stories have left empty: a positive picture of what's innovative and possible in American education when communities decide they are ready for change. In chorus with experts including Sir Ken Robinson, Linda Darling-Hammond, Yong Zhao, Alison Gopnik, and Daniel Pink, the change makers in
Beyond Measure prove that a new vision and a higher purpose are possible for American education.
