Dear Maple Village Community,
This past week, I was lucky enough to spend more time in our classrooms and just take time to experience the results of everything we are doing.
I watched Kindergarten at the height of indoor play and saw the magic of cleanup, as with only a song as a cue, each child asked for a specific “job” and proceeded to complete the task with pride and focus. In the end, the room was completely back in order, and all children were on the floor listening to a story.
I was able to learn all about No Rouz in the 4th/5th grade class (photos below) as we not only heard about it, but were able to experience it! I happily jumped over the “fire” gaining its energy, and I let go of last year’s problems while eating from the bowl of mixed nuts. Later, I was able to enjoy authentic Persian food in the 1st grade, as they celebrated in their own way.
I sat mesmerized by Eurythmy several times this week. Our teacher, Mr. Dupuis, is nothing short of amazing. The children are smiling and moving in and out of each other, sometimes with pride, sometimes with question, and always with humility. If you want to gain insight on any child, watch them in Eurythmy. It is amazing how much you can glean. Please do join all of us for the Eurythmy sharing on April 6th in order to see this unfold in front of you.
I heard the 6th/7th grade singing Siyahamba, a Zulu song, with Ms. Francesca, 1st grade singing in Spanish with Ms. Ita, and 3rd grade singing in Hebrew with Ms. Raine in preparation for their play.
I finished my 7th grade English lesson today and was beaming as the students not only identified parts of speech, but specific types and the “why” behind it.
It has been a great week, and on top of it all, I get greetings and hugs from students as I walk down the hallways. As always, thank you for sharing them with us.
With much gratitude,
Lisa

Tomorrow! First Grade Transition Meeting
We would like to invite all Kindergarten families (whether or not your child is moving to First Grade) to a meeting to discuss the process of the child’s transition and readiness for First Grade. We will cover the picture of Waldorf child development from the ages of five to seven, and the picture of the child who is prepared for the First Grade curriculum and experience. The presentation describes the changing needs of the child who is ready for the grades. As the children grow become older, the role of the teacher grows and changes accordingly, and this presentation sheds light on what that looks like. Finally, we will speak together about how parents can support the child’s journey into the next stage of their education.
So, please join us on Saturday, March 25th, from 10:00 - 11:30 am in the 1st Grade Room.
Important Note For Larkspur Families: We will be holding a Larkspur class parent meeting from 9:00 - 9:45 that same morning in the Larkspur Kindergarten room.
Please RSVP to Alice if you are needing Childcare for either or both meetings, as we need to plan accordingly.
(Also note, that we rent a few classrooms to a German School on Saturday mornings, so you will be seeing other children on site. We will not be overlapping rooms or yard time with them.)
Saturday, March 25
Larkspur Class Only Meeting: 9:00 - 9:45 in Larkspur Classroom
All Kindergartens: 1st Grade Transition Meeting: 10:00 - 11:30 in 1st Grade Room

Help Mr. Dan!
Please help Mr. Dan (and Maple Village)! Online reviews are a BIG part of families deciding to check out our school -- and we only have seven on Google. We can do better than that!
Please take a quick second to write a review
here (feel free to copy/paste if you've written a review elsewhere) and Mr. Dan will be eternally in your debt.

6th & 7th Grade Evergreen Class
Last month, the Evergreens had the honor of having an impromptu presentation from two coordinators of our neighborhood food bank, Ms. Villano and Ms. Melrose (two parents at our school). They inspired us with examples of how helping others in need can really impact lives in a very meaningful way. Since the Food Bank truck was just then arriving, they asked if they could help unload the truck and start making a difference right away. What followed was a positive experience for everyone involved! The Evergreens have asked if they could help unload the truck every month— As part of their ongoing Knighthood Project, they are discovering that this is what modern chivalry is all about. Thank you to the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church Food Bank for allowing us this opportunity!
