Dear Maple Village Families,
Welcome back from Spring Break! During the second week of break, my family traveled to Northern California to participate in college tours for my middle son. We stayed in Berkeley as our home-base, and we found there is a new developing Waldorf school there called Berkeley Rose. They have two campuses - one preschool campus and a kindergarten/grades campus.
My youngest son and I decided to walk the town one afternoon and went to each site after their regular day had ended. What I was again reminded of is how incredible it is to step into another Waldorf school and feel welcomed from the start! At each campus (both rented from churches), teachers took us into their colorful rooms, showed us a narrow school yard and garden area similar to ours, asked us questions about our school and sought advice for theirs. We arrived during the grades campus aftercare, where with limited space, they were inventing a ball game. We walked into the school building to find teachers finishing a department meeting and engaged right away in pedagogical topics. I was even able to guide them, as they are just a few years behind us in their journey.
I thought I would share a few photos to show you how similar each school looks! They even have a Sunflower Kindergarten, and doesn’t their hallway look familiar? It is good to know that wherever you go, if you visit a Waldorf school, you will feel right at home.
Warmly,
Lisa

Dear Maple Village Families,
I would like to wish all of you a very happy springtime. As many of you know, March 16, we welcomed a new baby into our family. His name is Adam Malik Guest and it has been so wonderful caring for him. He is very sweet and loves eating, sleeping and being close with Mommy, Daddy, and Grandma. In the last week he even starting smiling at us which has been so fun. I am really looking forward to bringing him to school for all of you to meet.
I wanted to thank all of you for your kind words and support leading up to my maternity leave. It was very hard to step out of the Maple Village community and not see daily all of the children, colleagues and families I love so dearly. I felt very quickly like I was stepping out of one world that I knew so well into another world that was incredibly new! When Adam came, I was swept up in the wonder of being with him and all of the amazing changes that happen when one becomes a mother. Seeing him for the first time was one of the happiest and most joyful moments of my life! Since then, every day I fall more and more in love and am so grateful this he chose me to be his mommy.
Please know you are all in my thoughts
From my family to yours!
Much love,
Charlotte, Jason, and Adam |

A May Day Summary by the Evergreen Class (6/7th Grade)
School Games were very fun because Ms. Parry split us into teams and we played a giant version of “snake catcher.” Four-Way Capture the Flag was awesome because we could see all the colors intermingling but each color had its own goal to get as many team pom noms in the right place. Being team captains was a special privilege, we especially loved giving orders to the younger kids.
Folk Dancing was fun too! During the week, we enjoyed bringing a folk dance that we knew so well and teaching it to all the younger grade classes— and then it was great to see everybody, including parents, have fun dancing it all together during our May Day Celebration. We had a lot laughs but everyone actually did really well with the dance! Overall, it was a fantastic time.

6th & 7th Grade Evergreen Class
Our 6th/7th Grade Evergreen class had a great field trip to Watts Towers. We took the Blue Line from Long Beach and then walked to the Towers. We were amazed and impressed! Since we will be doing a class mosaic project for the upcoming Gala auction, we were very inspired by this great, original work of art.
