Dear Community,
As you know, in the weeks before Spring Break, we were blasting you with a plea to enter the Long Beach competition for the Cool California Challenge. I am so honored and thrilled to report that We DID IT again!! Amazing! Not only did we win 1st place (for the second year in a row) for all of Long Beach by a wide margin of 200,000 points, we wound up placing FIRST in the STATE by over 100,000 points! Once we got rolling, there was no stopping us.
We do not mess around!
Thank you to all the parents, teachers and staff who spent time logging their energy over the break.
Thank you to those of you who hopped onto our google group to encourage others to participate and share tutorials on how to do it effectively.
Thank you to Pam Villano, my partner in "incessantly texting and emailing people to log in.” She even made home visits!
Thank you to Larry Rich, who came to school during the break to meet with anyone needing assistance.
Thank you to my family for not clobbering me as I logged in over and over again throughout each day on vacation to add points and text people instructions.
We not only earned the prize of $3,000 for our school, we earned an honor that helps us say to the community, “We walk the talk.”
We also helped the City of Long Beach earn prize money for our Office of Sustainability, as Long Beach placed second as the “Coolest City” just under Claremont.
That is what we did on our Spring Break!
With gratitude and pride,
Lisa J. McCarthy
