Dear Maple Village Parents,
With the school year at a close, and two festive weeks of summer camp over, I wish you a Happy Summer!!
Thank you to Miss Victoria, Miss Veronica and KITE for hosting a wonderful summer camp experience for all ages, and thank you to those who participated. I saw so much activity between crafts, mud play, baking, smoothie making, theatre acting and pure FUN!
This summer will continue to be busy on campus, as many classrooms are moving locations to accommodate our large new 1st Grade and continually growing existing classes. Classes on the move:
- Preschool will be moving into the Manzanita room on the church side (plus gaining Pastor Tom’s office, bathroom & private courtyard!)
- Larkspur Kindergarten will move right next door into the light and spacious Preschool Room
- 1st Grade will move into the large Larkspur Room
- The growing Manzanita class will move down to the cool Shady Trees room.
- Shady Trees will be moving into the sunny newly expanded faculty room.
Sunflowers, Cottonwoods, and Evergreens are staying put.
If you have time this summer, we could use your help!!
To offer general assistance on campus, please contact: Parent Village Chair: Pam Villano @
psmith3131@yahoo.com
To offer specific services with project building, room remodeling, painting, moving boxes, etc. please contact: Suzanne Toro @
suzanne@maplevillageschool.org or text her at 707-277-1113.
As you can imagine, we are all still hard at work planning the coming year for your students. We are finalizing scheduling, improving physical spaces, completing our hiring process, enrolling new students, reenrolling current ones, improving administrative processes, and your teachers are studying and developing curriculum for the year to come!
We look forward to connecting again soon. In the meantime, feel free to contact me, Alice or Suzanne with any questions.
Thank you for a truly incredible year of dedication, inspiration and support.
Warmly,
Lisa J. McCarthy
Dean of Education

Welcome to our incoming First Grade Class - Our Largest Ever!
Our new First Grade teacher, Miss Paola, invited our Rising First Graders to gather around her one morning before the end of the school year.
This class will make up our largest First Grade to date with 18 students (and more applications are still coming in)!
The students had a chance to introduce themselves, let her know what THEY hoped to learn next year (how to read, how to make a doll, and everything about outer space...) and sign her special book.
Exciting times indeed!

Let’s Build Vertical Garden Beds for Maple Village!
Hello Maple Village Families!
My name is Sasha Kanno and my family is joining MVWS this fall. Our son will be a Larkspur Kindergartner, and I will be teaching gardening/farming to Grades 3 - 7. I’ve been an urban farmer in Long Beach for almost 10 years and run a small farm called Farm Lot 59 off California Ave.
I would love to have a build day at my farm to construct 3 free standing vertical garden beds and 1 free standing trellis for an existing garden box we have at the school. We can donate lumber and inspiration, but we need the hands to make the work.
We will be building Saturday, July 30.
9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Bring:
- Tools if you have them
- Lunch
- Water
- Sun protection
Since this is a working day, we advise not bringing young ones, but grades children not needing oversight are welcome.
Please RSVP and direct questions to me at:
Click here for directions to the Farm:
Attached are a few images for inspiration.
Thank you!

Green Piece
Evergreen Class in the Recording Studio!
As part of our Ocean Healer Team’s project for Algalita Marine Institute's Plastic Ocean Pollution Solution, our students completed and recorded a song about helping heal our planet from single-use plastic items.
Many people jumped in to make this dream and reality!
1. Our Ocean Healer team (Yomaris, Kate, Felix and Peter) compiled information on statistics of single-use plastic item usage and ways for people to REFUSE to use them, thus helping heal our oceans from pollution.
2. Very talented singer-songwriter, Kevin Seidel from the San Francisco band
Recliner, volunteered his services, took the students' information and phrases, and wrote the lyrics and music to our very own song entitled Refuse and Go.
3. Our Chorus teacher, Sarah Steinbacher, taught the song to the whole Evergreen Class. Miss Sarah and Kate Webber accompanied on guitar.
4. Antoine Arvizu, owner of
The Compound Studio agreed to produce and record our students singing it! We went into the studio on June 12th.
What an incredible experience.
Here is what you can look forward to in the fall:
Hearing
Refuse and Go performed by our students live.
Hearing about the next piece of the project (filming and making it into a music video for educational purposes)
And...
Handmade fabric reusable sandwich and snack bags will be for sale in order to raise a bit of money to donate to the recording studio for services.
Way to GO Evergreens!
- Miss Lisa
