Shirley Hazlett Studio - Open Sep 9 & 10 10a-5p
4311 Attawa Ave, Sacramento
Yep – I’ll be ready to welcome you by 10a Sat the 9th! Final stages of preparation, joyfully anticipating your visiting my art studio on September 9 & 10 between 10a and 5p, the 1st weekend of Sac Open Studios. Installing works, clearing off work table….
Featured are
Embrace, my 2023 series of suspended silk paintings, about 40x40 inches each, and many smaller framed silk paintings. Again this year, hand painted watercolor cards, suitable for sending as gifts or framing. And a few surprise art offerings.
Three women painters in one location: Michelle, Rochelle, and I, are exhibiting in our individual studios.
What are the
Embrace paintings about?
A recurring theme in my artwork is seeking calm in a chaotic world. In creating a new body of work for 2023, I am increasingly concerned with worldwide discord, we appear to be retreating to isolated corners of the planet, grasping tight our own beliefs without seeking clarifying information or reaching out to others.
Causes of this “siloing” - likely many – COVID-19, politics, the Internet, an increasingly fragile earth. You might add to this list. Calmness in a chaotic world is increasingly more elusive.
With my
Embrace series of suspended silk paintings, I call for the need to come together to address common goals that will better our lives, our country, and our world. Through circular formations, I convey the need to be whole again.
Embrace paintings are created with two colors coming together from opposite directions, joining forces, sometimes resulting in an unexpected interaction and beautiful outcome.
