I'm pleased to invite you to my two-woman show, with sculptor Linda S Fitz Gibbon, at ARTHOUSE this month. I'm showing paintings on silk and Linda's showing ceramic sculptures. The world around us, Animal Vegetable Mineral, is our inspiration.
The show's in the main gallery at ARTHOUSE, 1021 R St, Sacramento. We have daytime and evening hours for receptions:
May 13 2nd Saturday Reception – 4pm-9pm
June 2 1st Friday Reception – 6pm-9pm
The show also can be seen during regular ARTHOUSE hours, Mondays through Saturdays 10-6pm and Sundays 11-4pm. I can meet you at the show at your request!
My acrylic paintings on silk abstractly recreate the feel of a place or a fleeting memory. With reverence for the natural world, I work to convey the sense of an evening sky, glistening gems, or flowing water. Stargazing and spelunking images conveyed on silk!
Linda's hand built ceramics portray the clash of modern cultural stereotypes and artifice with nature. This leads the viewer to not only question if the object is real, but whether
it grows, is alive, and if comes from the earth, is it still natural?
I believe our work is complementary, and that Linda's trompe l'oeil ceramic sculptures and my silk paintings invite a close second look, as the works are not what they appear at first glance. The world is not as simple as it was when we could easily classify all existence into three categories! Linda and I each work uniquely in our chosen disciplines. Hope to see you at this show!
