Ash Wednesday Announcement From Chicago Archdiocese
This year, the largely secular celebration of Valentine's Day (Feb. 14) coincides with Ash Wednesday and some have inquired if a dispensation from the obligations to fast and abstain from meat will be given.
Catholics throughout the world recognize Ash Wednesday as the solemn beginning of a period of prayerful reflection and penance, as is evident by the large number of churchgoers on this day.
In view of the significance of Ash Wednesday the obligation of fast and abstinence must naturally be the priority in the Catholic community. Valentine's Day can appropriately be celebrated the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which also happens to be Mardi Gras, a traditionally festive time before beginning our Lenten observance.

Men as Healing Identity in the World
The Church is a redemptive and healing agency in the world. Lent is a time of renewal to keep our lives clean.
Do you as Catholic Man, and domestic priest in your home, allow yourself to be used by God and the Church, and to make your identity as a healer in the here and now?
God does His work today through people. The best way to do this is first with our own renewal to make ourselves clean.
Reflection Questions:
What healing do I seek from Jesus? How do I experience Jesus’ healing love in the word of God and in the sacraments of the church?

Pope Francis shares in his annual message for Lent:
"Catholics should use the season of Lent to look for signs and symptoms of being under the spell of false prophets and of living with cold, selfish and hateful hearts" ... "Together with "the often bitter medicine of the truth," the church — as mother and teacher — offers people "the soothing remedy of prayer, almsgiving and fasting," |

National Marriage Week (Feb. 7-14) is a great opportunity “to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and the family” says Archbishop Charles Chaput, OFM Cap., Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family and Youth in his letter to all U.S. bishops.
Here are some resources that can help you celebrate marriage this year.

Remarks by President Trump at the 66th Annual National Prayer Breakfast
"America is a nation of believers, and together we are strengthened by the power of prayer. ...
Each year, this event reminds us that faith is central to American life and to liberty. Our founders invoked our Creator four times in the Declaration of Independence. Our currency declares, “In God We Trust.” (Applause.) And we place our hands on our hearts as we recite the Pledge of Allegiance and proclaim we are “One Nation Under God.” (Applause.) ...
Our rights are not given to us by man; our rights come from our Creator. (Applause.) No matter what, no Earthly force can take those rights away. (Applause.) That is why the words “Praise be to God” are etched atop the Washington Monument, and those same words are etched into the hearts of our people. ...
So today, we praise God for how truly blessed we are to be American. (Applause.) Across our land, we see the splendor of God’s creation. Throughout our history, we see the story of God’s providence. And in every city and town, we see the Lord’s grace all around us, through a million acts of kindness, courage and generosity. We love God."

Five easy ways to donate to Catholic Men Chicago Southland
here

|
Mission:
Catholic Men Chicago Southland (CMCS) fosters Catholic Men in personal holiness, to make Jesus Christ the center of our daily lives.
CMCS is a Catholic Apostolate of Most Reverend Joseph N. Perry of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Executive Director, Frank J Casella
CMCSVirtues.org
Vision:
To Nurture Catholic Men's Spirituality in the Chicago Southland.
CMCS has a practical way of evangelizing Catholic men young and old, and their families, of helping them to understand what the culture often rejects – how men and women should relate to one another in complementary ways and how important husbands and fathers are to children.
Since 2004, Catholic Men Chicago Southland (CMCS) has reminded men and helped them to do what is in their power to do, namely, be holy and courageous men, to improve their marriages, be better fathers to their children, grow in virtue, serve the needs of others more generously, be active participants in their parishes, and be better citizens.
“If only we knew how God regards this Sacrifice, we would risk our lives to be present at a single Mass.”
- St. Padre Pio 1887-1968
