How to Help Children / Adolescents in the Aftermath of Exposure to Trauma and Tragedy
Jennifer Wolff, LISW-CP(S) CTS
This highly interactive experiential workshop will teach participants how to recognize trauma related behaviors in children/adolescents and how to intervene behaviorally as an aid to healing. Through active participation, participants will increase their knowledge about the various developmental stages and how they are impacted by traumatic exposure. In an unsettling age due to the increase in the number of school tragedies nationally, participants at all levels will learn how to proactively recognize potential signs of pending disaster and how to intervene in the pre and post aftermath. In addition, this workshop will offer empirically based techniques proven effective in working with children/adolescents exposed to child abuse/neglect. Methods of instruction will include experiential group exercise learning, visual aids, and large group discussion.

20% of Army Kids Need MH Treatment
According to
DefenseNews.com 1 in 5 Army kids will face a mental health issue needing treatment before they turn 16. Unfortunately, the military does not have the resources to provide the care these children need.
As may be expected, teens have a particularly difficult time with deployments, especially with extended time away. Parents reported their deployment increased depression and emotional difficulty among all of their children.
At the 2017 SSBHC, we already have several hours dedicated to presentations for professionals working with children of military and veteran parents. We are also currently seeking funding for a preconference for family members and stakeholders to discuss the issues these kids face.
Email Lee for more information.

We are trying to identify needs and resources provided to them and their families in SC and other southeastern states. We would then like to meet some of those needs at our annual conference.
Please email
Lee if you are interested in helping out. |
