Volunteer Opportunity: SBI's annual Career Day

Session #1 - 30 volunteers needed: 7:45am - 10:00am (hot and cold beverages provided) - serve as a roundtable discussion leader and participant in the networking exercises (the volunteer presenter will discuss her/his career path with a group of 5 – 10 students followed by a networking exercise with other volunteers and 120 students)
Session #2 - 45 volunteers needed: 10:45am - 4:00pm (lunch provided) - serve as an interviewer in the Mock Internship Interview Competition (the volunteer will conduct three 30 minute interviews after evaluating the student contestant’s cover letter and resume).
Session #2 Itinerary:
10:45 – Interviewers register in the school’s main lobby (just inside the St. Nicholas Terrace entrance). After registering, interviewers will be escorted to the library.
11:00– Interviewers will be introduced to the day’s procedures and they will receive their interviewing assignments (Interviewee resumes and cover letters will be distributed).
11:30 – Lunch is provided. Interviewers will review student resumes and cover letters and can evaluate those documents. We encourage interviewers to write comments on the documents (students find it extremely helpful).
12:45 – Interviewers report to their assigned interview stations. Following each interview, the interviewer will complete the detailed evaluation form and tally the score.
1:00 – 1:45 – Round One Interviews. - (Note: The maximum time for each interview is 30 minutes. The remainder of the time should be used for the evaluation on paper as well as to tally the score.)
1:50-2:35 – Round Two Interviews.
2:40-3:25 – Round Three Interviews.
3:30-3:50- Tally Scores
3:50 – Announcements of Winners

More About the Event: The primary objective of the day is to provide students with a laboratory experience in which they can gain an assessment of their interpersonal skills. Students during the course of the day will have an opportunity to assess their ability to network, to open up to new ideas, and impress potential employers and college admission officers. Students will also have an opportunity to assess their ability to focus and to listen attentively.
