Course Overview:
Translation Techniques is part of the Short Courses Program for Translators. It is a seven hour Module which includes 4 hours of face-to-face learning activities and 3 hours of online/homework activities.
This specialised Module delivered in English, introduces and discusses the various translation techniques required in the performance of written translations and includes topics such as:
- What is translation
- Meaning based translations compared with literal translations
- From technical to literary – approaches to translation and specialisation
- The notion and validity of equivalence including strategies for solving non-equivalence
- Machine Translation (MT) and Computer Aided Translation (CAT) -relevance, applicability and benefits.
- Work Practices
- Approaching clients for work
- Purchase orders and business practices
- Professional Development
- Difficulties and Pitfalls
- General overview of some of the issues that Translators encounter and how they might overcome them
Participants are eligible to receive a Certificate of Attendance upon successful completion of this course for a small fee of $40.00 payable in advance.
Participants also obtain 20 professional development points for revalidation for Section 2: T & I Skills Development.
