October was chock-full of activities, so there’s lots to report on this month, starting off in Marrakech, with the WCA (Wharton Club of Africa) Executive Investment Summit. Next came the 16th edition of the EBAN Winter University in Berlin.
From Berlin, we were off to London, where the London Stock Exchange Group conference room hosted a very special event, Invest in Istanbul. Do take a look at the programme for a clear idea of the discussions on this fruitful day.

WBAF Chairman speaks at the WCA Executive Summit Morocco
The WCA (Wharton Club of Africa) Executive Investment Summit was held 1-3 October 2017 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Marrakech, where Baybars Altuntas, as Chairman of the World Business Angel Network, was an invited speaker at the Private Investor Roundtable and a contributor to the Angel Investing & Venture Capital Roundtable.
The Summit boasts an exceptional record for delivering tangible results for investors in closing investments and partnerships and is known for serious deal-making, co-investments, exchange of material business intelligence, and strategic partnerships. The Summit also features Africa’s only forum for family offices, family business heads, and high net worth individuals.

EBAN Winter Summit - Europe’s largest and most influential Business Angel event was in Munich
The EBAN Winter Summit 2017 one of Europe’s largest and most influential Business Angel events worldwide, was held this year in beautiful Munich, Germany! This event was the 16th edition of the renowned Winter University by EBAN, the European Business Angel Network. The WBAF Chairman and The EBAN Vice President was a speaker for this influential group, who were able to share experiences, get inspired by leading edge start-ups, and invest in the some of most progressive solutions to ensuring our future.

WBAF Chairman speaks at the Invest in Istanbul event at the London Stock Exchange Group
On 23 October 2017, start-ups and angel investors came together in London at the London Stock Exchange Group with the goal of creating new ways for start-ups, scale-ups and high-growth businesses to access finance. WBAF Chairman Baybars Altuntas welcomed participants at the opening of the event spoke on a panel discussion on the role of corporates in supporting angel-backed businesses to achieve global growth.

WBAF World Congress 2018 - Website Online!
For the first time ever, the World Business Angels Investment Forum will be hosting more than 1,000 delegates from all over the world at its annual gathering. Pitching to potential LPs / investors for your fund
If you are running a fund and are looking for new investors or LPs, the WBAF main stage is waiting for you. You will be able to make a pitch (3, 5, or 10 minutes) to let the WBAF investment community know about your fund. This is a great opportunity for you to attract new investors to your fund.
We are therefore allocating a special session on the main stage of the WBAF World Congress 2018 on 19 February 2018 at the Swissotel the Bosphorus Istanbul. Business angels invested a total of 6.7 billion Euros in 2016! Check out an important research publication focused on business angels. SME Finance Forum meets in Berlin – 1-3 November
WBAF Chairman Baybars Altuntas was a delegate at the 2017 SME Finance Forum, which met in Berlin 1–3 November. This Forum operates a global membership network that brings together more than 140 financial institutions, technology companies, and development finance institutions to share knowledge, spur innovation, and promote the growth of SMEs. Established in 2012, the SME Finance Forum is managed by the European Investment Fund (IFC).

How can we redefine public and private partnerships to ease access to finance for entrepreneurs?
‘SME’s and start-ups face enormous challenges. Among the toughest is their struggle to access finance and inability to accumulate capital. This lack of financial resourcing impedes growth, business development, and ability to hire – in other words, SMEs that have the potential for exponential or fast growth instead grow far slower. A consequence of this challenge has been a shift of focus, where innovation becomes a vehicle to decrease production costs, respond quickly to evolving consumer needs, and ultimately preserve and sustain an SME’s competitiveness. How business angel networks in chambers of commerce are created and executed is of paramount importance – it would be easy to write off the idea, if poorly executed.’
