Newsletter for ADG Copy
Note to ADG Brothers: Below is a copy of my latest newsletter which mentions ADG at the end. If you only want to receive ADG related material and updates and never wish to receive Smart Pro News - like this Issue #42 which I publish monthly, please let me know and I will take your email off the general list and only send you 100% ADG related information. If you wish to receive both Smart Pro News and ADG material, please let me know that too so that I you are on both lists. If you received this newsletter yesterday, by definition you are on both lists and you don't have to do anything. Please also keep sending your bio updates or news items so I can add to the blog or you bio. Also send emails please of any brothers not yet in the loop. I recently heard from Michael Caporale and his email address is michaelcaporale@hotmail.com. He mentioned that he wanted to hear from any Delts, and specifically Steve inzinna and Carlos DelCastillo (FYI: About 4 weeks ago I wrote a letter to Carlos who lives in Tampa to try to get his email but have not heard back yet). Charleston Mercury columnist Spencer Broome and Dr. Murray spoke in an extensive interview about sports psychology. Broome swept up the floor in discussing the reality of the great need for this training, but the frequent and absurd resistance still often faced in pro sports. Thank you Spencer for sending a pdf file which all can now enjoy at: http://www.smartproinsight.com/charlestonmercurymay7.htm

(Photo at left: Dr. Murray hits balls with former world #18 ranked tennis pro Vince Spadea on the grass of Wimbledon before the 2007 Smart Tennis Sport Psychology Workshop in London) It's that time of the year again when tennis is in the air. Sure there are Indian Wells, Key Biscayne, Madrid, the French Open, and many more, but no single tournament captures the imagination more than than The Championships at Wimbledon. Dr. Murray will be there again this year on the weekend before the start of the event, conducting two full day sports psychology workshops at the Sutton Tennis Academy, a longtime sponsor. We are also proud to welcome new hotel sponsor "The Bulldog Club," providing the finest bed and breakfast in hand-picked private homes in London. Dr. Murray is thrilled to be staying at one of their exclusive properties on his visit, and will give you a personal report about the quality of his stay upon his return to the USA. Full details about attending this day and year of sports psychology training can be found by clicking on this link |
In the May 11 issue of The New Yorker, Malcolm Gladwell wrote a great article "How David Beats Goliath" about what happens when underdogs break the rules. Gladwell is one of the most fascinating writers of our day and you will surely love this one which you can read at this link

Dear John, Your recent "Florida Tennis" article on the mental side of the 2009 Sony Ericsson Open was fascinating. Also, While I was waiting in the doctor’s office yesterday, I picked up People Magazine and read this article that reminded me of sport psychology. The article from April 13, 2009, “Up and Running” described the story of former Olympian, Suzy Favor Hamilton. She was leading the 1500m in Sydney on September 30, 2000, when she fell with less than 200m to go. No one realized then that she was struggling with depression which destroyed her athletic career. I don’t think I would have noticed the story if I had not been working with you on the Psychological Aspects of Athletic Injury. Allen Burnett, Ph.D., Higher Education Instructional Designer |
Dr. Murray recently attended a Miami reunion of fellow Alpha Delta Gamma fraternity brothers from the Epsilon Chapter of Loyola University New Orleans at the home of attorney Charlie Arazoza. Most who attended had not seen each other in 25-30 years. Any brothers who would like to attend future reunions are encouraged to contact Dr. Murray at: johnfmurray@mindspring.com or by calling 561-596-9898 to be added to the newsletter list for future events. |
