WELCOME TO THE DECEMBER, 2018 SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY NEWSLETTER - I HOPE YOU ENJOY!
Mental Skills/Mental Performance is probably the number one Factor in success, and it is not even close. I found this to be true in NFL football and wrote a book about it, but my instincts and logic suggests that this book could be written for 50 different sports or performance situations and have reached the exact same conclusion!
When I wrote "The Mental Performance Index" in 2011, four time Super Bowl champion coach Tom Flores endorsed it fully and wrote the introductory chapter extolling the benefits of smart play and mentally trained players. See what he wrote about it all below.
Here is a
great recent article that points out that the future edge in college sports could indeed be mental wellness too.
So this combination of mental skills training and counseling appears to provide the athlete and business executive today a true cutting edge advantage, not only to perform better, but to achieve greater inner peace and wellness too, which translates to performance and self-esteen.
I recently contributed to a number of question and answer forums, in which I was asked explicitly about this advantage and how sports psychology works. Enjoy these two articles in Psychology Today and USA Today:
