The Boat
The unstable political situation in Haiti has made life difficult for some of our business owners there. Social unrest has put a damper on tourism in Haiti, so repayment for the boat loan has slowed. All of the money our boat driver brings in goes to pay for gas, which is at least three times as much as usual. He does have some ideas for using it in the fishing and lobster business, but those ideas are still in the infancy stage. We continue to be hopefully that things will change in Haiti, and become easier for him as he tries to run his business.
Motorcycles
Rebecca was able to give out no interest loans for two new motocycle businesses. Transportation is such a thriving business in Haiti, so we are very excited to be able to help jump start these businesses. Repayment of the loans for motorcycles has been very steady and the men are excited for the opportunities that they have. No matter what the political or social situation, people still need the transportation. This form of transportation is also a good way to build relationships in the city. The motorcycle business is going strong!
Ice
Francois recieved a loan to start a freezer business where he would sell frozen ice, a very high demand business as well. Unfortunatley his ice business has slowed due to a problem with his compressor. He assures us that he is working on it and will be up and running soon.

Rebecca and Renal Come Alongside |
|
|
Longtime OneIN partners in Haiti, Rebecca and Renal, have made a significant change in their ministry. These two faithful workers, who have worked for another organization in Haiti for years, have decided to branch out and start their own ministry. They have named it "Alongside Families in Haiti," or "Alongside" for short. Rebecca and Renal hope to empower families to educate and care for their children better. They will have a role similar to TIF's in the OneIN ministry, helping to identify families or individuals who would benefit from small, interest-free loans to begin or expand their own businesses. We are grateful that Rebecca and Renal will continue to partner with OneIN in Haiti, empowering the poor through business, even as they move forward with Alongside. Please join us in congratulating Rebecca and Renal in their new venture and pray for them as they start this new chapter of their lives! |
